BURY'S season finished on a low on Saturday with a defeat at Hindley St Peters.

It has been a disappointing season for the Sports Club team, although not unexpected, having lost eight of the previous seasons first team.

The good news was that Premier League cricket has been maintained for next season when it is hoped the progress from the wealth of junior talent will continue.

The junior section of the club continues to be one of the most prolific in the county.

The under-11s, have won the Bury and District League and are in their cup final, the under-13s were just pipped into the runners-up spot in the Central Lancashire League, but claimed the Walshaw sixes title.

The under-14s were also runners-up in the Salford League and won the League Cup.

The under-15s were CLL champions, as were the under-16s in the Salford League.

The season was brought to a fitting finale on Sunday when the under-18s enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Stretford in the Manchester Association's Reakes Cup.

Ammar Baig claimed the man of the match honours with three wickets and 32 not out.

Ammar was one of three players from the club to gain county representative calls this season, the others being Mark Hague and Danny Pawson.

For the seniors, the second team won their cup competion as well.

The third team are also still in the hunt for their championship too, so there is plenty to celebrate down Radcliffe Road. So come on first team!
