A VOLUNTARY group for Asian women in Accrington has been granted permission to turn a terrace house into an office - despite opposition from local residents.
The Aawaz Women's Voluntary Group plans to use the property in Empress Street to provide information and advice for local women.
It will also be used as a drop-in centre and will offer IT training sessions.
The office will be open every day, from 10am to 9pm. Residents from two neighbouring houses wrote to Hyndburn Council to oppose the proposals.
They stated that many people in the local community "felt aggrieved" because they had not be told about the plans.
The objectors were also concerned that the office would lead to an increase in traffic, would make parking problems in the area worse and would create a noise disturbance.
Committee chairman, Councillor Janet Storey, said: "I do think that we should look at this for the first year and see how it goes from there."
