PRESTWICH-based design and creative communications specialist Appleby Bowers has earned top marks.

For the company, located at Bank House Studios in Warwick Street, has won a new account to raise the profile of a north west-based independent training provider.

Appleby Bowers came out on top following a three-way competitive pitch to mastermind a sustained programme of promotional activities for Alliance Learning.

This is a part Government-funded organisation which covers the Bury, Bolton and Leigh areas, providing vocational training and advice for businesses and local people.

And just recently, Alliance Learning chief executive David Guthrie attended a special Downing Street reception to recognise the independent training provider's contributions to work-based learning and also the personal achievements of David himself.

After winning the pitch, Appleby Bowers' first task is to devise a masterplan of activities spanning marketing, PR and design which are the agency's core activities.

Alliance Learning's marketing and advertising co-ordinator Louise Silous said she was looking forward to some high impact results.

She said: "We chose Appleby Bowers because we felt they were the most creative and dynamic. They have vast experience in this sector and the inter-personal skills of their team really shone through when we met them."

The Alliance Learning success is another boost for for the Prestwich company and follows a recent move to their new office premises.

Managing director Bernie Bowers commented: "We have an in-depth understanding of this sector and look forward to helping Alliance Learning really make their mark to ensure even more local people and companies benefit from their service."

During his visit to Downing Street, David Guthrie was part an invited audience of 200. He said: "The reception was in recognition of what the post 16 sector contributes to our society and economy. Post 16 education and training is central to our ambitious of opportunity and security for all.

"The event represented a significant first in recognising the critical involvement and achievement of the independent sector alongside schools and colleges."

He added: "The Prime Minister's mini-presentation specifically referred to independent training providers and commented on the quarter of a million apprentices and the growing demand from youngsters, adults and employers."
