HUNDREDS of people packed into church to mark the funeral of tragic car crash victim Chantelle Petterson -- more than seven months after her death.

Family and friends paid tribute to a "bubbly" youngster at the service held yesterday at St James' Church, Church Street, Haslingden.

White lilies were draped over the youngster's coffin with floral tributes themed in pink and white.

Friends Sandi and Kirsty left the message: "Goodbye Channi. We will never forget you. We love you. Such a bubbly girl. Such a shame. You will never leave us."

A message from Chantelle's grandad said: "To my darling Chantelle. Missing you lots. Sleep peacefully love Grandad."

Mariah Carey's "Hero" was played at the start of the funeral -- a song which Chantelle, 16, had sung herself.

Her mum Mandy addressed the emotional service, paying tribute to a "wonderful and talented" daughter.

She said the popular Haslingden High School pupil had one ambition in life -- to become famous. Her devastated mum said: "I wish that you would have had the chance to fulfil your dreams. I miss our girlie chats and when you gave me a hug and a kiss.

"I miss your beautiful smile, I just hope the angels look after you and you fulfil your dreams in heaven.

"You will always be in all our hearts and I would like to thankyou for the 16 years you have given me."

The youngster was killed alongside her friend 20-year-old Simon Ashman, both of Chester Crescent, Haslingden, when the van they were travelling hit a wall outside Haslingden Sports Centre, Helmshore Road, on February 1.

Their parents hit out at police for taking so long to complete their investigation.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

Following the service a burial took place at Haslingden Cemetery.
