AS if rising violent crime and a culture of yobbish behaviour isn't bad enough, Labour want to press ahead with plans to introduce round-the-clock drinking!
Many East Lancashire towns are no-go areas as it is at weekends as drunken yobs fight each other and clash with the police.
Longer opening hours will cause more violence and health problems as it has in the United States and Australia when it decided to launch its plans for a 'Mediterranean culture' by allowing alcohol to be sold round the clock.
I don't want to spoil peoples' fun. But late night binge drinking is not amusing when fighting and vandalism spill out on to the streets.
Labour says it wants to stamp out 'yobbism' at the same time as it plans to make the problem even worse!
It cannot even enforce the existing laws against under-age drinking, let alone cope with any increase of public drunkenness and disorder.
Rising crime figures under this government are shocking in themselves, yet on the page opposite Mr Adams' letter (LET, September 8) was a telling quote from HT of Blackburn, ".... I fall over on a night out. I do that regularly. I fell down the stairs at Jumpin' Jaks at Blackburn."
HT of Blackburn may very well be pleased with the Labour's plans to introduce 24-hour drinking. I'm not sure that the rest of us are.
