THE campaign to expand Greater Manchester's tram network is to be taken to the fringe meeting at all three Autumn political party conferences.

Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority will push its "Get Our Metrolink Back On Track" message to the top in meetings se to be themed: "The importance of light rail schemes for an integrated transport system, economic regeneration and competitiveness".

They will take a lively debate format, with a panel of high profile politicians and transport industry insiders answering questions from the audience.

Cllr Roger Jones, chair of the Authority, said: "I'm sure that the strength of feeling over Metrolink will ensure a good turn-out."

The Metrolink, which currently runs from Bury, Altrincham and Eccles into Manchester, was due to be expanded to Stockport, Oldham and Manchester Airport in a plan to boost the service.

But spiralling costs prompted the government to scrap the scheme, angering transport bosses and passengers.
