BLACKBURN Hawks cross the Pennines today for a 'Roses' battle with Bradford Bulldogs.

The Hawks are looking to maintain their 100 per cent record and hold on to their lead at the top of the English National Ice Hockey League North, but player-coach Bobby Haig is far from complacent.

"These are the kind of games where you can slip up if you're not careful," explained the experienced Scot.

"By the same token, they are the games we have to win if we are to be in there competing at the end of the season."

The Bulldogs have lost their opening two league games, with a goal difference of minus 13. In contrast, the Hawks have won three out of three, and in Haig and Brian Worrall, sport the league's leading point scorers so far.

Haig will have the luxury of a fully fit squad to choose from but is typically urging caution as he prepares the squad for the next hurdle.

"We have only one game this weekend but we have to be thoroughly professional if we are to get the result we need.

"Bradford play a good tight game on their own rink and I know it won't be easy. I'm delighted with our start to the season but, fingers crossed, there's a long way to go."

Face-off at Bradford on Sunday night is at 5.15 pm.
