CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new college for Burnley were voted through using an out-of-date map, claim campaigners.
People living in the Springhill Road area were livid when councillors approved Burnley College's construction of a education department.
They want to appeal against the decision and plan to make a formal complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman, who could investigate the decision.
Residents fear the development will bring more traffic to their already busy streets.
But Ruth Stinchon, of Berry Street, said councillors took their decision after looking at an old map of the area, which did not include Chestnut Rise, where there are 36 houses.
That meant councillors could not have had the full picture of how much traffic flowed in the area.
She added: "The residents feel we should take this further for an ombudsman investigation."
Another campaigner, Steve Ireland, of Chestnut Rise, agreed the ombudsman should investigate.
He said: "It seems to me common sense has gone out the window. It's a residential area and the extra traffic won't help, by any stretch of the imagination."
