UK researchers are developing a DVD that could store 100 times more information than currents discs.

Staff at Imperial College London have produced a new way of storing data which means that every episode of The Simpsons could fit on a disc the size of a normal DVD.

Existing DVDs have grooves on with small pits in them that reflect laser light and so read the information in the pit.

However, the researchers have been able to put layers within each pit allowing them to increase the ability of a DVD to record sounds and images.

It could take a few years for the technique to become commercially available, so by then there may be something more useful than The Simpsons to record.

A MALICIOUS code that can take over your computer may be lying beneath images found on the web, experts warn.

Windows-based PCs could be hit by JPEG format images that have a small piece of code within them, which communicates with another computer on the internet.

If the image is viewed in Explorer web browsers or Outlook email packages the code is able to take over a computer. Experts are advising people to update their anti-virus software.
