AFTER a lifetime of caring for others, Muriel Jackson got the chance to put her feet up for the day as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
A former nurse, Mrs Jackson -- known as Jackie -- was treated to a big party by staff at Beaumont House residential home in Church Lane, Whitefield, where she lives.
Family and residents of the home were invited to join in the celebrations, along with the Mayor of Bury, Coun Barry Briggs.
Born on Brynglessy Farm, in Llanigon, Wales, Jackie joined the nursing profession in Malvern and met her husband Fred Jackson in 1926. The couple moved to Chorlton-cum-Hardy in 1935 and they had three sons, Stanley, Roy and Paul.
Jackie returned to nursing in 1940 but later had to retire due to ill health.
After the war, the grandmother-of-two became an active member of the Civil Defence Corps and developed her hobbies of gardening and knitting.
Her husband Fred died in 1966 and four years later she met partner Arnold Scott, known as Scotty. Nowadays, Jackie likes a quiet life at Beaumont House, where she has lived since Scotty died in 1999.
