Rovers hero Glenn Keeley tackles the big issues

DAVID Beckham is one coke short of a Happy Meal!

That's the only conclusion I can come to after that nonsense on Saturday when, he now claims, he deliberately got himself booked.

I mean, what's going through his head? He seems to have lost the plot and the guy needs to see someone.

He scores a great goal to put England 2-0 up then he throws himself into two of the most suicidal tackles imaginable.

The first one was the most ludicrous namby-pamby nancy boy challenge I've ever seen - and just when he was having one of his better games for England for I don't know how long.

This was the challenge that gave him his rib injury so that had nothing to do with this idea that he was flying in to get booked on purpose - not that anyone I've ever known thinks that way in a game anyway.

If he really wanted to get booked, why didn't he just turn round to the referee and mouth off at him? That guarantees you a yellow card in this day and age.

Instead, he decides to go for some rubbish lunge that was like watching one of those B-rated kung-fu movies.

It doesn't bear thinking about, especially when he's the captain with responsibilities.

People used to have a go at Gazza because he never cottoned on to the behaviour thing but Beckham has been doing this sort of thing ever since he kicked out at that Argentine in the 1998 World Cup, so in all that time he's never grown up.

He is trying to claim he was being clever by doing it, but to me that's a non-explanation because the first tackle was so poor anyway, and both were on the same player.

To go for Ben Thatcher on both occasions suggests to me that he had it in for him. Maybe Thatcher was giving him some stick concerning his missus or something, because Beckham seemed to have a problem.

And it was also farcical because on the second challenge, knowing he was already hurt, Beckham could have injured himself even further.

He might as well have just turned round and punched someone.

After saying he wasn't right during Euro 2004, the manager needs to be strong enough to address these issues and perhaps give Beckham a break from the side if his head isn't there.

At least that will happen tonight and I hope Shaun Wright-Phillips comes into the side because he is a stunning player.

And knowing he has a challenger for his spot in the team might bring out the best in Beckham too.
