Despite missing out on the permanent signing of Scott Vernon, Blackpool were hoping to have the services of the Oldham striker for a further two months.

The two clubs had agreed to extend the loan deal to take it up to the maximum three months but the paper work waiting to be signed Oldham boss Brian Talbot changed his mind.

Vernon scored three goals in four games for Colin Hendry's side, a statistic which obviously impressed the Oldham boss whose side sit just two places above Blackpool in the the Coca Cola League One table.

On the news Colin Hendry said: "We agreed the extension and arranged with Scott to be at the ground on Monday morningto sign the relevant paperwork. Scott came through and signed everything but Oldham have changed their mind, which they have every right to do, and as a result Scott has gone back to Oldham. I would like to place on record our thanks to Scott, he has worked hard and I am sure he has enjoyed his time with us."

Blackpool take on Colchester at home on Saturday.
