From the Guide files of Friday, April 27, 1979: MEMBERS of Prestwich Heys were involved in a car crash after their coach was delayed on the motorway.
The lads chose to go to the match against Eastwood Hanley by car but two of the vehicles were involved in a "concertina" crash at the junction of the M62 and M6. Eight people were involved in the crash and some suffered injuries but they were not considered to be life threatening.
WELL-KNOWN market trader Harold Creme was to appear on a TV documentary called Making a Bob or Two. Harold (56), of Edgeware Avenue, Prestwich, was to demonstrate his success at selling towels and bedding, plus his special toy auction.
MEMBERS of the Staff of Life social club donated £1,020 to Pendlebury Children's Hospital for a new kidney machine. The Rainsough Brow club spent eight months organising raffles, sponsored walks and sponsored slims to raise the cash.
PRESTWICH Ladies Circle welcomed new president, Mrs Pat Healey. Mrs Healey took over from retiring president, Mrs Joan Reavey.
A FAMILIAR face at Whitefield post office was to disappear with the retirement of sub-postmaster, Mr John Wilkinson. Mr Wilkinson was appointed to the office on Bury New Road in 1957 where he worked alongside his wife, Bette.
