FROM the Guide files of Friday, October 19, 1979: FORMER Brownies and Brown Owls returned to their old pack for a celebration to mark its 30th birthday. The anniversary was at the 5th (Stand) group which met in All Saints' schoolroom, Whitefield.
STAND Grammar School produced its best academic year to date. Passes in both A and O-Levels were at a record level despite reorganisation of the school into a sixth form.
MORE than 50 teachers and former teachers of Hope Park Girls School attended an event to bid farewell to Mrs Elsie Musgrave. Mrs Musgrave, of Oldfield Road, Prestwich, was retiring after 28 years' service.
WHITEFIELD and District Amateur Operatic Society chose The Vagabond King for their main production. Founded on Justin Huntley McCarthy's romance, If I were King, the music for Vagabond King was by Rudolf Friml.
THE FIRST printing of John F. Wilson's "History of Prestwich" was in such demand it sold out in just a few weeks. The second printing was available to buy at Prestwich Library, priced £1.25.
