From the Guide files of Friday, June 15, 1979: SCHOOLBOY Andrew May (15), lived every footballer's dream by playing at Wembley Stadium.
Andrew, a pupil at St Peter's Grammar School, Prestwich, was included in the English Schoolboys team against West Germany.
WINNERS of the Prestwich and Whitefield District Cubs and Scouts Sports Day were the 18th Prestwich (Seaforths). The group won with 33 points and in second and third place were the 8th Magpies with 31 points and the 25th Prestwich with 27 points.
GOOD attendance earned schoolboy David Airey a special award. David had never missed a day in five years at Heys Boys Secondary School -- equating to 1,000 attendances. He was presented with a shield to mark his achievement.
AFTER 27 years of unbroken service to St Mary's Church Council, Mr George Masheder retired due to ill-health. Mr Masheder, of Rectory Lane, Prestwich had been secretary then a churchwarden at the Parish Church.
HUNDREDS of people went along to Heaton Park for the annual open day. Attractions included Morris dancing, police dog demonstrations and fairground rides.
