UPBEAT Chorley boss John Hughes is sure his side can record their third straight league victory and lift the early season gloom from around Victory Park.

Hughes has seen his side bounce back from seven straight defeats to win two on the run -- and the Magpies manager says nothing is better for confidence than a victory.

Chorley take on fellow UniBond Division One strugglers Belper Town at home tomorrow knowing that another three points will help steer them away from the foot of the table.

And despite last weekend's FA Trophy defeat at Stocksbridge Park Steels, wins against Clitheroe and high-flying Mossley have instilled a new-found confidence.

"Nothing boosts your confidence more than a win and we have now won our last two," said Hughes. "In fairness, the mood was pretty good even when we were losing but now the lads are upbeat after those victories.

"It was a shame we lost in the Trophy but the league is our bread and butter and we need to keep up our recent good form."

Chorley will fancy their chances at home to a Belper side who are just two places and four points ahead. But Hughes will be wary following their surprise 8-2 win at Ossett Albion on Wednesday.

"They'll be flying at the moment following that win so it is up to us to bring them crashing back down to earth," he said.

But the Magpies may have to do so without the influential midfielder Jamie Vermiglio, who is struggling with an ankle injury, while Lee Pennington was concussed against Stocksbridge and is doubtful and Matthew Woods is out through suspension.

However, James Price -- who has returned to Victory Park from Radcliffe Borough -- is likely to retain his place in defence after playing in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Mossley.
