A LORRY driver and police today called for warning signs to be erected near a low bridge after a wagon got stuck during the morning rush hour.
The driver said Skew Bridge, in Whalley New Road, Blackburn, was "an accident waiting to happen" after the accident at 8.30am today.
David Monks, 58, said there was no sign on the railway bridge and stressed that neither he or any other articulated vehicle of that size could have stopped in time.
Duty Inspector Stuart Bruce, of Blackburn police, said: "We are concerned that there seems to be no signs and we will be investigating with the highways authority urgently.
Luckily, this time it was not too serious and the road had only minor disruption."
Mr Monks, of Forest Freight Global Logistics, Rotherham, said: "There isn't a sign on the bridge and it's on a blind bend. Before I knew it, it was too late. It's so very dangerous.
"I drive all around the country and this is not a common thing -- we need signs so accidents like this don't happen. It's lucky I was going slow because of the bend. It could have been worse and people would have been hurt."
Mr Monks said there was no sign on one side of the bridge, at the junction of Clarendon Road, and only one sign at the Brownhill roundabout, roughly half a mile back.
"There should be a number of signs on the approach to a bridge. It's just not acceptable."
Police diverted traffic around the vehicle after the accident today before the road was closed at about 9.30am by recovery company, Wards of Burnley.
The lorry blocked one side of the road for at least two hours before the stranded vehicle was removed and the road fully reopened at about 10.15am.
Network Rail were assessing the bridge this morning for possible damage.
Blackburn with Darwen Council was unavailable for comment.
