BROTHERS Stephen and Trevor Ashworth have used pedal power to raise almost £20,000 for charity.

The leading businessmen took the 'Rocky' road to charity to help boost funds for Scope and Cancer Research.

The brothers, directors and owners of leading North West property and development company The Hurstwood Group, based in Rawtenstall, were sponsored to take part in a 450km cycle ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Fresh from the trip, the intrepid pair are now planning their next charity venture.

Stephen, 37, the company's group chairman, who lives in Rawtenstall, said: "It was a very tough week but hugely enjoyable too.

"Trevor and I have done a series of similar rides over the years, including events in Jordan and The Grand Canyon."

The Rookies bike tour was arranged as a mammoth fund-raising event by child cerebral palsy charity Scope.

Trevor, 34, of Helmshore, added: "As a family we have long been supporters of Scope, the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

"We are also keen cyclists, so events like this allow us to combine doing something we love and raise money for good causes. We funded all expenses ourselves and we have been sponsored by business contacts and friends, as well as making a substantial donation from Hurstwood, to help raise the £20,000."

In May next year, Trevor's wife Deborah will take part in a five-day trek through the Peruvian Andes, to raise money for Cancer Research.

The brothers plan to continue with their training and undertake further events in the future together with their ongoing charity fundraising campaign with Hurstwood Group.
