IAN Upton, UKIP press officer, has done me a favour by publicising my speech at the Labour Party Conference (Letters, October 12). What is more, I stand by every word. UKIP really are a ramshackle outfit.

First they lose one of their MEPs -- before he could even take up his seat -- over allegations of benefit fraud. Then another comes out with the outrageous comment that a woman's sole purpose in life is to clean behind fridges.

Next, we have fallen TV idol Robert Kilroy-Silk, unable to restrain himself from launching a bid for the UKIP leadership, triggering open warfare. It may be his aim to "wreck" the EU but, at present, he seems to be doing exactly that to UKIP.

Finally, they manage to shoot themselves in the foot by alienating their main financial backer, Paul Sykes. That cost them a cool £1 million.
