A BANK robbery in Carnforth is to feature on the BBC's Crimewatch programme.

A camera crew was in town this week to film a reconstruction of the robbery which took place at Barclays Bank on August 3.

The film will show how raiders, wearing balaclavas and carrying firearms, forced their way into the bank after hurling a beer barrel through the window. They threatened staff and sped away with a quantity of cash.

The gang was seen to drive away in a blue Alfa Romeo, which was later found in nearby Queens Drive.

DI Neil Esseen, the man in charge of the investigation, will also appear on the programme to be screened next Thursday, October 28, to appeal for witnesses.

He is hoping the television plea will provide police with further useful information about the crime.

He says: "We need to find these men because they are be dangerous. They were armed and showed a total disregard for the bank staff, who they threatened in a terrifying way."

Anybody with information is asked to call Lancaster police on 01524-63333 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
