WORKERS at a Ramsbottom factory found things getting a little hot last Friday when they added a Latin flavour to their day.

To mark United Nations' World Food Day and raise money to help fight global hunger, workers at Ramsbottom TNT Express Services Depot dressed up as Mexicans and enjoyed traditional Latin-American cuisine, including tacos, fajitas and chilli con carne.

The fundraiser was a part of TNT's partnership with the World Food Programme to help distribute vital supplies to areas around the globe that are most in need.

Ramsbottom depot's general manager Eddie O'Donnell said: "In our role as Britain's leading business-to-business express delivery service, we feel we can make a meaningful contribution in helping the World Food Programme combat hunger and starvation.

"Earlier this year we helped raise £70,000 in the UK when TNT employees participated in the Walk the World, a series of sponsored walks in 63 countries which contributed a grand global total of £500,000 to the World Food Programme."

Stuart Stobie, divisional managing director of TNT International UK, said Friday's fundraiser would help raise awareness of global hunger among the company's 10,000 strong workforce.
