Clarets boss Steve Cotterill today offered a reward for the return of former Burnley hero Andy Lochhead's prized FA Cup Final medal.

The Burnley manager said he was willing to put up cash for the safe return of the medal dating from the 1969 cup final, and some of the players may also chip in.

Cotterill said everyone at the club was proud of Andy's achievement, and called for the return of the medal, which the former striker wanted to hand down to his two-year-old grandson Alessandro.

He said: "Andy is a great lad who has been fantastic to me since the first day I arrived.

"He was a legend in his time and the person who has this medal probably has no idea how big a player he was for Burnley Football Club.

"We just want it back because it is something he, and the club, are very proud of.

"Someone might have it and now regret stealing it, given the publicity it has received. They can't sell it, so they may well want to give it back."

Following the theft of the medal -- which Andy won when he played for Leicester City in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City -- on Saturday October 2, the Lancashire Evening Telegraph launched a campaign to reunite the former Clarets captain with his prized possession.

The campaign has since been backed by East Lancashire antiques expert and Burnley fan Eric Knowles.

Andy, who made his debut for Burnley against Manchester City in 1960 and went on to score 128 goals in 266 appearances, said he would be over the moon if the medal was returned.

He said: "I think it's absolutely tremendous.

"Steve is a really great guy and has been like a breath of fresh air down there."

Anyone with information about the medal, which was stolen from Andy's Arkwright Street home, should phone Burnley CID on 01282 472144, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
