MARAUDING midfielder Brett Emerton is gunning to transform himself from provider to poacher.

The Australian is eager to get his name on the scoresheet more often this season, as well as improving his all-round game.

Emerton has only scored one Premiership goal this term, in the 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa, but has vowed there is more to come from him.

"There's a lot of room for improvement in my game, so I'll be working hard in training to do that," he said.

"One thing I need to improve on is scoring more goals, and hopefully I can do that this year.

"It doesn't matter how I get them, just as long as they go in the back of the net.

"Last season I provided a lot of goals but I didn't get myself in a lot of positions to score many, so that's something we've been working on and will do more of in the future.

"But, as midfield players, it's not only myself but all of us that have to look to contribute more in the goalscoring aspect of things, and hopefully we can do that."

Despite Rovers dropping into the bottom three following their 4-0 drubbing at home to Middlesborough last week, Emerton insists there is a fighting spirit in the camp.

And with the squad enjoying life under new manager Mark Hughes and his backroom team, the 25-year-old is confident that Rovers' fortunes will soon take a turn for the better.

"I think Mark is a great manager and the coaching staff that he has brought with him are very good also," he said.

"The boys are very happy with the manager and I think everyone has a very positive attitude at this stage."
