COLIN HENDRY is seeking to strengthen his Seasiders squad ahead of a visit by high-flying Huddersfield on Saturday.

The Blackpool boss is stepping up his search for new blood and hopes to have two deals finalised this week.

His former Blackburn Rovers colleague, Paul Warhurst, is one name firmly in the frame. The experienced star began his career as a defender but has more often played in midfield or attack in a career which has seen him feature for Oldham, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers, Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers.

But whoever arrives at Bloomfield Road this week will find it tough to break in to a Seasiders first team which is growing in confidence after a fine victory at Brentford's Griffin Park on Saturday.

The Bees had won all of their previous seven home games and had stormed into second place in the table, but were rocked by a combination of brawn and skill from the Seasiders.

But Hendry's side now need to convert their form on the road - three wins in four games - to success at home, where maximum points have so far eluded them.

Saturday's gate is almost certain to be the biggest of the season at Bloomfield Road, with the Yorkshrie side selling out their full allocation of 1,900 tickets almost two weeks in advance.

The Yorkshire side have made a good start to the season and lie in seventh after winning promotion in the play-offs last season. In former Preston hitman, Pawel Abbot, they have the division's joint leading scorer with 11 goals, while bandana-wearing Nigerian world cup defender, Efe Sodje, is at the back.

Manager Peter Jackson - a former contender for the Blackpool job before Steve McMahon's arrival, also has a host of promising youngsters to call on.

Blackpool will hope for a start as good as the one they got on Saturday, when Richie Wellens and Scott Taylor combined to set up John Murphy in the six yard box. The big man continued his recent fine form with a sharp turn and finish.

Brentford boss, Martin Allen, likes to think of himself as a master of kidology, going back to his Reading days, and had his players warming up in front of their Blackpool counterparts after the break.

But his efforts proved to be in vain and Murphy doubled Blackpool's lead when he powerfully headed home another excellent Paul Edwards corner.

Edwards' work rate was outstanding again and it is a major blow to see him suspended from Saturday's game after an over-picky referee booked him for time-wasting, his fifth card of the season.

Scott Taylor completed the scoring, finishing well after a good passing move to send the Seasiders back on the long journey up the M6 with three points in the bag.

Keith Southern's bid for a return to the first team has suffered a setback with the cancellation of Blackpool's reserve match at Carlisle United on Wednesday. The midfielder had been expected to feature in the game as he continues his recuperation.

Saturday's game against Huddersfield will be followed, three days later, with an LDV Vans Trophy game - against Huddersfield! Both sides may be tempted to use the second game to blood some younger players.
