KEITH Barker was the toast of Brockhall after springing from the bench to inspire Rovers Under 18s to victory.

Academy director Bobby Downes was certainly quick to recognise the impact of the substitute as he scored twice in the 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

"It looked as though it wasn't going to be our day but Keith Barker came on and changed the game," said Downes.

"We played very well and I'm delighted with the end result."

The final score was particularly pleasing because the bulk of the game was locked in a goalless stalemate until Barker came on to the left side of midfield.

This wasn't until the 70th minute, but despite not having much time to show what he could do, the local lad made an instant difference.

He scored twice to take his tally to five for the season, and in between he also set up the other goal for England Under 19 international Andy Taylor.

The former St Bede's pupil took his goal haul to an impressive three from left back so far this campaign.

The win was Blackburn's sixth in succession in the FA Academy Premier League and it took their overall record to nine wins and one draw from 10 games.

Rovers: Drench, Kane, Taylor, Barr (Walsh 80), Nolan, Welch, Stopforth, Hodge, Woods (Barker 70), Garner, Derbyshire. Subs not used: Fielding, Rowntree, King.
