RAMSBOTTOM Rotary Club enjoyed a sell-out annual boxing tournament.

A packed audience of 300 people watched the bouts at the event held at Woodhey High School, on Friday night.

The event was held in conjunction with Sharples Boxing Club of Bolton, who put up the ring and organised the bouts.

The tournament has been running for more than 20 years and originally had its roots in Haslingden before the venue moved to the Astoria in Rawtenstall.

The youngsters taking part came from local boxing clubs with one entrant coming from Kirkham.

Mike Colbert, a spokesman for Ramsbottom Rotary, said: "It was a brilliant night. We are still working out how much we made but it was a great success."

Ramsbottom Rotary will be holding a meeting and meal at the Grant Arms Hotel on Thursday, November 11.

The town's youth wing, Ramsbottom Interact have been invited to the event.

A presentation of the funds raised from the boxing tournament will be made to a representative from Aid International, an organisation that helps children overseas.

Ramsbottom Rotary also has links in America with Morehead City Rotary club and is also linked to a club in the Czech Republic.
