MORECAMBE landed the plum FA Cup draw that every club craves after being paired with Hull City in the first round proper.

The Shrimps booked their massive KC Stadium payday after a 5-1 win over Hucknall Town at Christie Park on Saturday - but the game wasn't as straight forward as the scoreline may suggest.

The Shrimps took their chances while the Nationwide North outfit didn't - and Morecambe's quality up front was the clincher.

They should have gone behind after just six minutes when Danny Bacon broke free in the box but ballooned a shot high over the bar from six yards.

But that moment of luck seemed to spur the Shrimps and they went in front from their first attack of note as Wayne Curtis blasted home a smart volley from a Jamie Heard cross.

Hucknall wouldn't lie down though, and Morecambe keeper Adam Sollitt pulled off a smart stop to deny Stephen Warne.

Moments later the game was effectively over as a contest with Morecambe blasting a quick-fire double.

First, Michael Twiss redisc-overed his scoring boots - he had gone one game without a goal and then missed the next through suspension - to make it 2-0 and that became three thanks to another Curtis strike.

Curtis, cool as you like, chipped the onrushing Matt Taylor in style as Twiss turned provider with a slide-rule pass.

While Hucknall refused to roll over, they were never going to peg Morecambe back and Twiss made it four as he took his second with some panache.

The fleet-footed ace finished clinically from a perfect Keiran Walmsley pass to kill the game and hand Morecambe the advantage their play probably deserved.

Hucknall did grab some consolation eight minutes from time when Andy Todd headed home a Roy Hunter free kick - but that was scant reward for their efforts.

And they must have wondered why they bothered when Walmsley got his name on the scoresheet.

His shot took a nasty deflection to beat the keeper as the Shrimps went nap with moments to go.

And they should have made it six in stoppage time when Nick Rogan broke down the right and crossed into the six-yard box.

But substitute Danny Carlton somehow contrived to blast the ball high over the bar from a matter of feet while unmarked.

MORECAMBE: Sollitt, Per-kins, Bentley, Twiss, Curtis, Swan, McFlynn, Heard, Hunter, Walmsley, Blackburn. Subs: Howard, Thompson, Carlton, Rogan, Robinson.
