AN uninsured drink driver who hit a bollard and ran off has been given a last chance to keep himself out of jail.

Burnley magistrates heard how Daniel Jackson, 20, who had been upset after splitting with his girlfriend, was almost twice the limit after the smash in Burnley.

Jackson was later given a community rehabilitation order with the Think First programme but went on to flout it and appeared in court for resentence.

The defendant, of Waddington Avenue, Burnley, admitted three counts of failing to comply with the order. He was given a seven-day-a-week curfew, between 8pm and 7am.

Bench chairman Ann Cheetham told Jackson he should have been going to custody and this was his last chance "at the OK Corral".

The court was told after the accident, the defendant gave two specimens - the lowest showed 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

Jackson told police he had been drinking all day in the pub and went for a drive round the block.

He realised what he was doing was wrong and was returning the vehicle when he hit the bollard. Jackson did not have a licence and was not insured.

Geoff Ireland, defending, said Jackson had been out of jail since January and, apart from the breach, had not come to the attention of the courts since.
