IN the letters for publication in the LET over the past few weeks, six have been in favour of the reintroduction of National Service, and one against.

During my service for Queen and country, that was roughly the same percentage of those who benefited from the experience and those that did not.

Regarding the dissenter's view (LET, November 4) for the past 40 years this nation has become swamped by sops, do-gooders and namby-pamby cry babies. This has led this once proud nation to rack and almost ruin. So why not try another way? National Service for all, now.

Incidentally, in the 20 years I served I never killed anyone, I don't smoke or drink and found no need for it.
