I MUST voice my concern regarding the imminent closure of Tyldesley baths.

My wife and many others swim there twice a week, if the pool should close I am afraid most of these people will not attend any other pool. What the council seems to forget is that most of these people are pensioners and will not travel to Howe Bridge or the new place on the other side of Leigh.

The council say that the pool is underused, well if that is the case why not close all the parks ie Tyldesley, Atherton, Hag Fold, Lilford and all the others in the borough, as these are definitely underused except for underage drinking, vandals etc.

I believe that the baths should stay open and be subsidised, a facility for the residents of the towns involved.

If the powers that be at Wigan spent more time collecting outstanding rent and council tax then maybe these facilities could stay open for the use of the people who pay.

May I suggest at the next election all the OAPs stay at home and show their anger by not voting for anyone.

J S Robinson,

Tyldesley.
