SUSPENDED skipper Gary Bauress is calling on Lancaster City to take their cup heroics into the Nationwide North League - starting at Kettering on Saturday.

Bauress misses the Rockingham Road clash with second placed Kettering as he starts a three-match ban.

But he will be barking out instructions from the sidelines as City aim to build on the plaudits received from Saturday's FA Cup defeat at MK Dons.

The Dolly Blues' cup involvement has seen them drop into mid table due to league inactivity and Bauress says: "Losing on Saturday was a disappointment - but we were never going to win the FA Cup.

"The main thing is to look at the league and make the play-offs and also make progress in the FA Trophy because those are competitions we believe we can do well in.

"It's a tough old game for the boys on Saturday. Kettering are doing well and are well up in the league. They have two good strikers and will be a challenge - but if we can play like we have been doing in the Cup, then we are capable of getting something."

The skipper is also keen to see Lancaster fans return to support the club in ever larger numbers.

"The fans were magnificent both at Scarborough and Milton Keynes and I would love to see more of the same for league games. They do make a difference to the players."

With Bauress taking a seat in the stand thanks to his red card at Mat-lock, boss Phil Wilson is likely to field Ryan Elder-ton or Ian Dawes in midfield.

Morecambe must also bounce back from the bitter disappointment of FA Cup defeat when Crawley Town roll into Christie Park.

The sides are locked together in mid-table on 24 points - with the Shrimps just one goal better off than Crawley.

They need to bounce back from the shattering blow of defeat at the weekend at Hull City.

Twice Morecambe led the Tigers at the KC Stadium - but twice they were pegged back before a goal four minutes from time sent them out.

"If we can take something from the defeat it is that we pushed a good side all the way," says winger Jamie Heard. "It was disappointing to lose but we need to take that form into the League and aim for the play-offs."
