AMADOU Sanokho's second goal in as many games was not enough to earn Burnley Reserves their first league win of the season.

The French midfielder thumped home a early first half header to put the Clarets in control against Stockport County at rain-lashed Turf Moor.

But the hosts, who gave 45-minute run-outs to Ian Moore and Graham Branch following recent injuries, let things slip after the break and frustratingly had to settle for a share of the spoils for the fourth successive game.

Reserve team manager, Mark Yates, said: "We started well, got an early goal and could have had the game won in the first half.

"But we started to get a little bit sloppy in the second half, and a little naivety at the back eventually cost us.

"In many ways that has been the story of the season, but it's a big step for the kids and reserve team football is not all about winning.

"It's about encouraging players and doing the right things and for the large part they coped quite well.

"We've got six or seven teenagers in there and I keep telling them it's different playing against professionals.

"Overall though, it was a decent enough performance and it's just frustrating not to finally get that win on the board.

"Their goalkeeper made three great saves and that's the margin between winning and drawing."

County keeper Neil Cutler must have feared the worst when Sanokho met Matt O'Neill's delightful cross in the seventh minute to add to the goal he scored against Shrewsbury Town last time out.

And as Burnley began to dominate the opening half, Moore forced Cutler into the first of a string of top-drawer saves with a low drive.

Branch had a goal chalked off for offside soon afterwards before Moore skimmed the post with a curling 18-yard effort.

However, Burnley withdrew the two experienced first-teamers at the break and lost much of their momentum as a result.

Michael Hale in the Burnley goal was soon forced in action, turning over Ricky Lambert's fierce free kick.

But Hale had no chance in the 66th minute as County carved the Clarets open for beanpole striker Matthew Bailey to slot home the leveller.

And Cutler in the County goal then ensured the visitors would hold onto their point with three magnificent saves late on.

First he turned aside Joe Booth's rising effort, then he somehow got a fingertip to Kyle Lafferty's powerful volley.

But Cutler saved the best until last, superbly turning over another bullet header from Sanokho in stoppage time.
