RAMSBOTTOM assistant manager Andy Grimshaw has urged the Riverside outfit not to throw away the chance to extend their FA Vase run.

Grimshaw is confident the Rams won't be suffering a hangover on the back of last week's 4-1 league defeat at Stone Dominoes.

But he wants them to guard against throwing the towel in when the going gets tough.

"It was a shock result last week considering the way we've been playing," he said.

"We played really well for the first 20 minutes and took an early lead. But then the wheels came off as soon as soon as they equalised.

"We've got a youngish squad but the strength of character we had was lost that day."

Nevertheless, Grimshaw is confident the Rams can put the disappointment behind them as they prepare to travel to Skelmersdale to compete for a place in the FA Vase third round.

Skelmersdale will be confident on the back of their 5-1 romp over Conference North side Lancaster City in the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy.

But Grimshaw knows Ramsbottom are more than capable of putting on a show.

"We've worked hard in this competition to get where we are now," he said.

"It's a tough draw but the game can't come quickly enough for me."

Ramsbottom hope to welcome back first choice goalkeeper Mark Andrews following a bout of flu, while Chris Mackay and Ewan Purcell are battling to be fit. Matt Edgington, however, started a three-week suspension on Monday.
