A DANCE and drama studio is being planned at part of a Blackburn school's expansion of its performing arts facilities.

The development was announced as the head teacher at Our Lady and St John Catholic Arts College, praised a "multi-talented and unforgettable year group" at last night's annual awards evening.

In her speech at the college in North Road, head teacher Colette Gillen said she was proud of the achievements of the 185 final year pupils.

She said: "Bald GCSE result figures do not do real justice to the achievements of all the young people.

"We must always be aware that Our Lady and St John is a truly comprehensive school.

"We do not select in any way, except on faith. So we must congratulate all pupils for their efforts."

The school hosts its own youth dance company which was invited to perform at the Mayor's Charity Concert at the first-ever Blackburn with Darwen Arts Conference.
