BURNLEY were today hoping to extend Richard Duffy's loan for a third and final month.

The Portsmouth defender has made clear his wish to remain at Turf Moor, where he has made eight appearances since arriving in late September.

Duffy's second month expired after Saturday's morale-boosting 1-0 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, there is a four-day window for both clubs to agree to any further extension.

And Clarets manager Steve Cotterill was today hoping to persuade Pompey boss Harry Redknapp to allow 19-year-old Duffy to continue his education by spending another month in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Cotterill reflected on his side earning back-to-back wins for the first time this season thanks to Robbie Blake's solitary strike at the Withdean Stadium.

The Burnley boss believes his side were full value for the win, which leaves them in 12th place and just four points off the play-off places.

And he reserved special praise for defender Frank Sinclair, who returned after two matches out despite fears from the management team that he was risking a further setback by playing.

Cotterill, who lost John McGreal to a calf injury late last week, admitted: "Frank was a big worry.

"He probably came back a week too early because of the injury to John McGreal, but I thought he was magnificent alongside Gary Cahill in defence and that was the rock we built a victory on.

"It was only around 1pm on Saturday that we made the decision. Frank wanted to play, but Jean-Louis Valois wanted to play a week ago and look what happened to him.

"I just thought I had to gamble with his experience and Frank knowing his own body and it was great to have him in there."
