PEOPLE of all faiths have united in East Lancashire to say prayers for those who have lost loved ones in the disaster in the Pacific Ocean.

Canon Andrew Hindley, of Blackburn Cathedral, said: "We will be saying prayers three times a day every day for those who have lost loved ones in this terrible natural disaster.

"Our prayers and thoughts go out to all those people, of whatever faith or religion in all of the countries affected, who are suffering because of these events, which are terribly difficult to get your head around or begin to contemplate."

Ibrahim Master, chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, said: "People from all over the world have been lost in this tragedy and people in the Muslim community are obviously very saddened by this terrible tragedy and our sympathy goes out to all the victims and their families and there will be prayers said for them."
