THE ENVIRONMENT Agency has suggested ways to help make the North West a better place in 2005 - with environmentally-friendly New Year's Resolutions.
Reduce, reuse, recycle - most councils offer recycling facilities for glass, paper, metal and sometimes plastics. Some have composting schemes. Contact the local authority to find out what is available and start with a trip to the bottle bank with your Christmas and New Year empties.
Use less power - unnecessary electricity consumption not only costs money, it is responsible for carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to global warming.
Leave your car at home - use public transport, share your car journey to work with colleagues or best of all, travel on foot or by bike.
Make your garden even greener - installing bird feeders and nesting boxes and planting native British wildflowers can encourage wildlife. Fight garden pests with eco-friendly methods rather than pesticides.
Spend, spend, spend - Farmers' markets offer local, seasonal produce at affordable prices.
