BURY is hoping to attract more film crews which will bring investment as well as putting the town on the TV map.
Figures from the Manchester Film Office show that Bury lies in sixth place in the Greater Manchester league for choice locations.
Crews spent just 13 days shooting major film or TV productions in Bury this year, including the BBC Three drama Convicted and Channel 4's Shameless. The figures do not include documentaries, one-off news, live children's events or other productions such as Coronation Street, which frequently films church scenes at St Mary's Church in Prestwich, including Ashley Peacock's recent wedding.
Cameras were in town to film scenes for the recent TV show Mine All Mine, starring Griff Rhys Jones and Ruth Madoc, and they also spent a day in Radcliffe for Paddy and Max's Road to Nowhere.
Council officers say that visits by large production teams can be money-spinning in themselves and bring in tourists, an area which the economic development unit is now looking at. A fact-finding visit from Manchester Film Office has been pencilled in for the New Year when the council will be aiming to show off the potential of the borough.
