SAFETY measures are to be introduced on a busy network of roads in Radcliffe.
A final plan has been drawn up by Bury Council's highways department after consultations with residents living near to the School Street area of the town.
Road closures, speed bumps, one-way systems and speed cushions will be added to the roads around the estate in a bid to slow down speeding drivers.
Cycle routes and pedestrian crossing points will also be used in the area where the scheme is to be implemented - between Water Street, Blackburn Street and Pilkington Way to the east, the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal to the north and Hutchinson Way to the south.
The Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative has been allocated £200,000 and after initial consultation, residents reported that the issues causing most concern were vehicle speeds and volumes of non-residential traffic.
At a previous meeting of Radcliffe Area Board, residents had complained that cars use many of the streets to get to the skatepark on Pilkington Way. The scheme will also give cyclists designated routes and use of roads where traffic will be prohibited.
The plans are to be discussed further at the next meeting of the Radcliffe Area Board, on January 2, at the Radcliffe Civic Suite, starting at 7pm.
