COUNCILLOR James Smith completely missed the point in his rant in the Blackburn with Darwen Council Chamber against the Whitehall Action Group who objected to the setting up of a care home for teenage boys in a mid-terrace house.

Our objection was made on planning grounds; that the property was just not suitable.

As for the type of youngsters who might have been living there, yes, we certainly did have concerns - largely because of the selective information that the applicant chose to give out.

We did know that these boys would be from outside the borough possibly Manchester or Liverpool, and would have emotional/behavioural problems.

Finally, there are two care homes within 400 yards of the proposed home but both are in detached properties which are much more suitable.

I can't recall more than a few raised eyebrows when these were being set up.

We realise that homes such as these are needed and that we all have to play a part in supporting them.

But let's have them in suitable premises please Coun Smith.
