A FUTURE of golf, relaxation and workouts in the gym is awaiting Lancaster coroner Howard McCann.

For, after 35 years in the high profile role, the 65-year-old has decided that the time has arrived to retire.

His career has covered investigations into thousands of deaths - including the high-profile Mor-cambe Bay cockling tragedy.

He will be replaced by Dr James Adeley, 40, currently assistant deputy coroner in Bradford.

Dr Adeley qualified medically in 1988 and practised as an ear, nose and throat surgeon in London before studying for a law degree and specialising in competition law and medical negligence claims.
