KEN Wright knows he can't waste any time in appointing Chorley's new manager.

The chairman stepped back into the manager's seat for yesterday's trip to North Ferriby United following John Hughes's departure earlier in the week.

But Wright admitted the squad was "not good enough" following the 3-0 defeat and knows the new man will have to be capable of bringing in reinforcements.

It was three goals in the last 14 minutes that consigned Chorley to defeat on Humberside as their opponents went back to the top of the UniBond First Division.

The Magpies battled hard to stay in the game but apart from a couple of strong headers by defenders Jamie Squires and Ian Callaghan from first half set-pieces they hardly troubled home keeper Paul Sharp.

Rob Dewhurst, leading scorer Gary Bradshaw and Carl Fothergill got the goals.

A goal after just six minutes gave Eastwood Town victory over CLITHEROE at a windy Shawbridge.

The visitors played with the wind in the opening period and scored the game's only goal when Peter Knox latched on to a simple long ball and lifted the ball over Danny Woodhead.

It was Clitheroe's turn to dominate in the second half and on 53 minutes they were given a real lifeline when a handball inside the area resulted in a spot kick.

Jason Jones took it but the goalkeeper guessed the right way and was able to palm the penalty kick away.

The New Year got off to the worst possible start for ROSSENDALE as they could only follow up the win at Chorley by being well beaten by a strong Willenhall outfit.

The Midlands outfit were well organised, fitter and quicker than the Dark Lane side, and although they relied heavily on the long ball game, it was highly effective and they should have won by more than a single goal.

Willenhall dominated the first half and it was only through their poor finishing that the scoresheet remained blank at half-time. Danny McGhee was the main culprit, missing an open goal and then heading another good chance straight at Dale keeper Andrew Robertson.

Rossendale could have few complaints about Willenhall taking the lead five minutes into the second half when Phillip Rowe capitalised on poor marking at a corner.

Ian Barker tried a shot from distance which drifted just wide and Dean Cooper should have equalised but blazed his shot over the bar from 10 yards.

Jamie Baguley pulled another effort wide and in the final minute Ross Harford hammered a shot just over from a tight angle, but an equaliser would have been harsh on the visitors.
