FOOTBALL chiefs today revealed they were investigating how an alleged fracas led to a match involving Nelson FC being abandoned.
And they said they were awaiting reports before deciding if they should take action against players and officials at the club.
Nelson's game at Oldham Town was abandoned on Monday following an alleged incident in the changing room area after two players had been sent off.
Oldham Town were 3-0 ahead at home to Nelson when the Moore & Co (solicitors) North West Counties League second division match was abandoned after 84 minutes.
Referee Ryan Broomfield said he took the action after an off-the-field incident involving players, officials and spectators.
But NWCL chiefs today said they were waiting for reports from the match referee as well as club officials before deciding on any action.
League chairman Dave Tomlinson said: "We are aware of the incident as both clubs have been in touch. We have been pleased with the reaction of the clubs who contacted the league to inform us there had been an incident.
"But we will have to wait for a report from the referee before deciding what action, if any, needs to be taken."
