THE LANDLADY of a Hyndburn pub which suffered a fire yesterday has reassured her customers that the pub will remain open.

And Sally Sutton remained so optimistic, she even joked about the situation by adding 'ash' browns to her menu.

Staff at the Griffin Head Hotel, Burnley Road, Huncoat, had to be evacuated and firefighters were called at 11.45am when a deep fat fryer burst into flames.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a fault on the thermostat.

It caused serious heat and smoke damage to the rest of the kitchen and slight smoke damage to the pub.

Sally said: "The pub has remained open and people came in as usual later in the day but we have lost the food business at the moment.

"The fire hasn't done any structural damage and was mainly limited to the kitchen itself. We were just getting ready for lunchtime so there were two or three staff, myself and my sons and the dogs to get out but we're all fine."
