BUOYANT Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman has urged his side to use their new-found confidence to cement a play-off place.

Stanley came from behind to beat play-off rivals Halifax Town on Monday - the first time this season they have recovered from a deficit to earn three points.

Coleman now wants the Reds to use that win as a platform for a run of results, but he knows consistency will be instrumental in their ability to achieve that target.

"We haven't won three games on the spin all season and we've let ourselves down in the past with inconsistency," the Stanley boss said.

"We let ourselves down at home to Dagenham, albeit after a magnificent performance in the first half. We've now got to get into the mentality of doing whatever we've got to do to win a game.

"We've got to get our head down and start being a bit more serious about how much the points mean to us.

"Hopefully we'll pick up a few in succession so we can get ourselves cemented in the play-off places.

"We've shot ourselves in the foot in the past - it's time to put the gun away."

Coleman now hopes his players will grow from self-belief after an important win at the Shay Stadium.

And he is confident that goals will be forthcoming from throughout his side.

"We have got players who can score goals and they've all got to chip in," he said.

"Steve Jagielka's got two now. It's like buses because he hasn't scored all season, now he's got two in two games.

"But lads will get chances playing for us, it's just about taking them because unfortunately we've been punished in the past by missing chances.

"We've probably played better than we did at Halifax in recent weeks and not won, but sometimes you've got to dig in," continued the Reds boss, who was delighted with the way his side responded to tactical changes.

"We had to change the formation (after Halifax scored) and be a bit more positive. We made one or two chances ourselves and I was a bit disappointed Paul Mullin's goal was disallowed.

"But we started to be more of a threat, and we've highlighted that if we're going to defend, we'll do it higher up the field and we'll put them under some pressure.

"Halifax had a couple of chances but not really the sustained pressure we've been under in the past, which is good because we got our confidence back and won."

He added: "It was certainly a game we couldn't afford to lose because of the situation with Halifax having a couple of games in hand on us. I think they could have put us to bed on Monday, with regards to us challenging them, if they'd have beat us.

"This league's very much of a muchness, a lot of teams are beating each other and we've just to get on a bit of a run, keep ourselves in with the chasing pack and who knows what could happen."

ACCRINGTON Stanley have re-arranged their home game with Halifax Town for Tuesday, February 22 (kick-off 7.45pm). The initial tie was scheduled for Boxing Day but fell foul of the cold weather.

STANLEY have allowed striker Damien Hindle to join Hyde United.
