I THINK I can answer the query from correspondent John Kershaw (Letters, December 9) who wondered what the stones were at the Top o'th' Cross in Radcliffe, near the junction of Eton Hill Road and Bury Street.
They are not the remnants of a monument. They are actually what was left behind when a public convenience, shops and houses situated there were pulled down some years ago. It was decided to leave the stones standing because of the risk to sewers underneath.
