A GRATEFUL young mum is to thank the hospital which saved her heart-op baby's life.

Kerry Ann Edwards is organising a concert at St Paul's Labour Club, Leigh, to say thanks to Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital and provide much needed cash for Ronald McDonald House, the home from home which allows parents to stay on site with their sick children.

Kerry, 25, spent three weeks at the charity-supported house while her fourth baby, Aimee, underwent open heart surgery when she was just nine days old.

She said: "It is absolutely fantastic, a brilliant place. I want to raise thousands and this concert is the first step of what I am planning to do to repay the hospital."

Kerry, who is staying in Bexhill Drive, Leigh, with fiancee David Kellett, and her three other daughters, Chantelle, nine, Robyn, five, and Ellisha, 18 months, while her Hindley home is being redecorated after a boiler blast, said: "We are lucky to have her."

Aimee was born on October 21 at Wigan and after just two days at home she was taken back for jaundice and phototherapy treatment. The following day a nurse noticed her breathing was laboured and after tests she was transferred to Alder Hey where medics discovered part of her heart was not properly formed and she underwent surgery.

After being on life support for six days she was discharged on November 10 and Kerry stayed with her in Ronald McDonald House the whole time.

Though Aimee still has a hole in her heart it is hoped it will heal itself, and she has further dates at the hospital in February for treatment to her throat, after her vocal chord was paralysed during her operation, and in March for heart treatment.

Kelly said: "Thankfully she is now doing really well."

Meanwhile Kelly is planning Aimee's christening on January 29, her wedding in two year's time and working to set up a teenage pregnancy help group with friend, Stephanie Gentle.

She said; "I was 15 when I had my first baby and I would like to help young mothers to be who havent got their parents backing them, some have little idea of what pregnancy entails".

Tickets for the concert will be available on the door.
