From the Radcliffe Times, of January 14, 1955: Chief civil defence advisor to NATO, Sir John Hodsoll, gave his warmest congratulations to Radcliffe on account of the town's extraordinarily high membership of groups involved with emergency planning.
l15-year-old David Hockey, of Lever Street, Radcliffe, was awarded the Royal Humane Societys Testimonial On Parchment at Radcliffe Magistrates Court, after he rescued an eight-year-old boy from drowning in the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal.
l Five men from Radcliffe were prosecuted for using wireless sets without having licences after a sweep of homes in the Manchester and Salford areas.
l A copy of the Winterbottom Memorial Window, destroyed when the chapel was blitzed in December 1940, was finally installed at the new Stand Unitarian Chapel.
l At the Picturedrome, Robert Taylor and Stewart Granger were appearing in Dial M For Murder, while over at the Odeon, the irrepressible Ronald Shiner was appearing in Aunt Clara.
l There was a good win for Radcliffe Borough in the Manchester Junior Cup against a lively Urmston side, who they beat 6-3.
