LEIGH RU gained their first double of the season with a 30-3 win at Northwich.

Leigh took advantage of a strong end-to-end wind and opened the scoring with a Wilcock penalty. They continued to pressurise the home defence without reward until prop forward Losty drove over from a five metre tap penalty. Wilcock converted for a 10-point lead.

Leigh dealt with a few spasmodic Northwich attacks and continued to threaten without finishing but a simple chip through a flat defence by Lee allowed Wilcock to touchdown for a 15-0 half-time lead.

From the re-start, Dave Wood put Bentham through a gap, and the full back fed winger Hunt for a super try, again converted by Wilcock. The home side tried to use the wind to put Leigh on the defensive, and produced a penalty goal, but Leigh were now running confidently with the ball. They were denied two further tries by a late linesman's call and a slow referee who failed to spot a grounding by Liku.

Wilcock added a consolation penalty before winger Bridge finished off a free-flowing move in the corner..
