OFFICIAL plans for a development of bungalows at Cambridge House, Darwen, have been submitted to Blackburn with Darwen Council.
The outdated sheltered housing is expected to be replaced by nine new buildings after Twin Valley Homes won Government cash to improve the area.
A £266,000 grant from the Housing Corporation was allocated to build the bungalows on the Cambridge House complex, in the Marsh House area, with work expected to start as soon as permission was given. The overall cost of the development, which will involve pulling down the existing sheltered housing scheme, is expected to reach £800,000.
Tenants living in Cambridge House will be offered first pick of the new two-bedroom homes, as well as other Twin Valley schemes such as Elizabeth House and Oaksfield.
Existing bungalows in surrounding streets have already undergone improvements, including new windows, doors, and external repairs and painting.
